Cuno Amiet – an important Swiss artist and pioneer of European painting in the 20th century.

Cuno Amiet – born in Solothurn in 1868 – was, along with Ferdinand Hodler and Giovanni Giacometti, one of the pioneers of Swiss Modernism. The majority of his works were created in the tiny hamlet of Oschwand, where he lived and worked. His artistic work is of international caliber; his high standing in today’s art world is unchanged. Learn more about the life and work of Cuno Amiet at the Kunstplatz Amiet.

“It seems to me that in everything that represents a whole – therein lies the art: whether painted, modeled, produced as music or shaped in any other way. A whole, after all, is an entity composed of parts, each of which is already a whole unto itself. The putty that fuses these parts into a whole, mysteriously and enchantingly, that’s the art.”
